Child of Leper
Singhrai's grandparents are afflicted with leprosy. The social stigma of this awful, but curable disease follows families for generations. Their village cast them all out and they have been living in a leper colony ever since. Singh Rai's parents, Jitray and Basanti, do paddy field work for about $38 per month. They brought Singh to live and study with us, free from prejudice. He is currently dreaming of becoming a engineer.
